Special Tribute

In partnership with Cinema Azadi, we are delighted to host a special event in honour of the acclaimed filmmaker, Amir Naderi, with the presentation and screening of his latest film Monté; as well as the screening of one of his most famous films The Runner.

Mirrors of Iran

In partnership with Art Gallery NSW and The Association of Iranica in Australasia, we will host a full day of engagement, discussion and cutting-edge research on Iranian Cinema on 8th of October 2017.

This conference features cross-disciplinary discourse on the impact and presence of Iranian cinema across the globe and includes a screening of the documentary film entitled: 76 minutes and 15 seconds with Abbas Kiarostami and Abbas Kiarostami’s latest short film Take Me Home.

Associate Professor Negar Mottahedeh from Duke University in the United States will present alongside Australian experts in contemporary Iranian Film and Screen, including Dr Amin Palangi, from Western Sydney University, Dr Michelle Langford from the University of NSW, Dr Rosa Holman from Deakin University, Dr Gay Breyley from Monash University, a PhD panel of students in Film & Screen Studies and the Art Gallery NSW film program producer, Ruby Arrowsmith-Todd. There will also be a live ensemble performance of Persian Classical Music.

Golden Gazelle Award

A number of awards are presented during Persian International Film Festival, reflecting our commitment to quality cinema. The festival jury will look at the films in competition and will present the Golden Gazelle Award for Best Feature, Best Documentary and Best Short during the Closing Night Ceremony in Sydney.

The Golden Gazelle Award is inspired by an ancient Persian winged-gazelle, dated back to Achaemenes Empire around 4th century BC, signifying vitality and intuition in artistic practice.

The Persian Film International Film Festival will present awards in the following categories:

  • BEST FEATURE FILM
  • BEST SHORT FILM
