2012 Festival Program

The 1st Persian International Film Festival was launched successfully in Sydney from the 23-26th of February 2012 at Dendy Opera Quays near Sydney’s Opera House.  Over the four days and seven screenings almost a thousand people from diverse backgrounds attended from all across Sydney.

Aside from screening films, the festival was also a cultural event.  The opening and closing nights of the festival included an artistic performance curated by artist Nasser Palangi from Middle East Art Gallery. The performance lit up Sydney’s most prominent promenade with cultural flair and was very welcomed by audiences and onlookers at the Quay promenade.  Our audience at the opening night went home with a festival show bag filled with great goodies, thanks to our sponsors, while our closing night audience each took home a tub of Persian nougat.

Special Event

Following Asghar Farhadi’s recent success, the festival has dedicated a special tribute to his cinema. In collaboration with the University of Sydney, each month one of his feature films will be screened, followed by a panel discussion about his art and cinema of the region. The tribute kicked off with a sold out screening of A Separation and special session held at the State Library of New South Wales where we showed The Making of A Separation, followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Michelle Langford, Dr. Omid Tofighian, Amin Palangi and chaired by Lynden Barber.  More events are to follow.  Check the site for regular updates on exact times and screening details.
