Brietta Hague is an Australian filmmaker & former international journalist.
For the last twelve years, Brietta has worked in documentary filmmaking, producing and directing documentaries from around the world for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Brietta was also based in Spain for three years freelancing as a journalist for ABC News, BBC News, Al Jazeera English, Atlantic media and Slate magazine. She produced TV reports and wrote news features, covering unique social, political and cultural stories in Europe and Africa.
After moving into narrative filmmaking, Brietta’s debut drama short Baltasar premiered at the 69th edition of MIFF where it won the Film Victoria Award Erwin Rado award for Best Australian Short Film. The film screened internationally and in 2022 won Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay at the St Kilda Film Festival as well as Best Director (short) at the Australian Directors’ Guild Awards.
Brietta is currently in development on the feature drama Uplift Kabul with Causeway Films, supported by Screen Australia and Screen NSW.
